About this copy

This is the fifth impression of this Famous Five title, first published in September 1953. The copyright page clearly states 'First Published September 1953' followed by 'Fifth Impression 1959', so this copy represents a later printing of the first edition text, not a first edition/first printing. Hardback in original pictorial dust jacket.

The jacket's front flap and rear panel are intact, retaining the printed price of 7s 6d net and the well-known printed facsimile 'letter from Enid Blyton' addressed to readers, a design feature of Famous Five jackets from this period rather than a genuine signature.

Condition

Book
Good – boards and text block are sound with wear consistent with age and handling; please see photos for full detail.
Dust jacket
Fair – noticeable wear including chipping and small losses at the spine ends and corners, a crease/split near the front panel fold, and general edge wear throughout. Price panel present and unclipped.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
