About this copy
This is the tenth impression of the third Famous Five title, first published in October 1944. The copyright page confirms the printing history: 'First published October 1944' with 'Tenth impression 1958'. This is not a first edition.
The book is bound in red cloth boards with illustrated blue endpapers. Text illustrations by Eileen Soper appear throughout, several printed with red highlight accents. The dust jacket carries the standard period design, including a printed (facsimile) 'Dear Children' note on the rear panel signed 'Enid Blyton' – this is part of the printed jacket artwork, not a genuine signature.
The front flap retains the original printed price of 7s 6d net.
Condition
- Book
- Good – boards are sound with only minor edge wear; text block and illustrations are clean.
- Dust jacket
- Fair – present but with significant chipping and tearing, particularly to the spine where paper loss is visible at the head and tail; the front panel has tears and loss to the upper corners; general soiling and spotting throughout.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
