About this copy
This is the eleventh impression of the second Famous Five title, first published in 1943. The copyright page clearly states 'First Published July 1943' with 'Eleventh Impression 1958', confirming this copy as a later printing rather than a first edition. The book is bound in red cloth boards and is housed in its original pictorial dust jacket, priced 7s 6d net on the front flap (uncropped).
The rear panel of the jacket carries a printed promotional slip with a facsimile message attributed to Enid Blyton introducing the series - this is a publisher's printed insert, not a genuine signature. The front free endpaper bears ink ownership inscriptions ('Paul Purkiss' / 'Paula Purkiss', one name crossed through), evidently from a previous young reader.
Condition
- Book
- Good - text block and illustrations are clean and complete; boards are sound with normal shelf wear.
- Dust jacket
- Fair - notable wear with chips and small tears at the spine ends and corners, general toning and soiling to the white ground, though the front and rear illustrations remain bright and the price flap is intact and legible.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
