This is the Panther Books paperback edition of 1967, illustrated throughout with 317 illustrations. The work was first published in Great Britain in hardcover by Thames & Hudson in 1962; this copy represents the later Panther softcover printing, not the first edition. A self-wrappered paperback (no separate dust jacket), with the front cover reproducing a photograph of the Mixtec turquoise mosaic mask from the British Museum.
A small vintage W.H. Smith & Son Ltd price sticker (5/06) remains on the front cover.

- Good – a well-used paperback copy showing wear and toning to the covers consistent with its age, rubbing and light wear to spine ends and corners, a crease/wear at the head of the spine, and a small chip to the fore-edge of the front cover. Text block is clean and complete.
