About this copy

Dent first published this edition in 1912. William Cobbett's Rural Rides is one of the great classics of English travel writing. Cobbett rode across the English countryside in the 1820s and 1830s, recording the rural life, farming, and social conditions he encountered with a sharp, independent eye and a memorable voice.

It remains essential reading for anyone interested in English history and the countryside. This is Volume One in a handsome hardback Dent edition, bound in green ribbed cloth with the publisher's blind-stamped device on the front board and the attractive Art Nouveau-style border to the title page. A later printing from the series, reprinted in 1922, 1925 and 1932.
