About this copy

This is the Readers Union book club edition of 1967, produced exclusively for sale to RU members. The work was first published by Routledge & Kegan Paul in 1965 (copyright page notes 'C D. J. Hall 1965'); this copy represents the later RU printing rather than the first edition. The rear jacket flap confirms RU club status and states the volume was not for general public sale, with an RU member price of 24s post free.

Hardcover bound in purple cloth boards, presented in its original illustrated dust jacket featuring a medieval-style woodcut design of pilgrims.

Condition

Book
Very Good – boards and text block appear clean, tight, and bright with no inscriptions noted in the photographed pages.
Dust jacket
Good – general shelf wear to the extremities, with a small chip/nick to the top corner of the front panel, a short tear at the head of the spine, and some toning to the rear panel.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.

Collector's notes

  • This is the 1967 Readers Union club edition, not the 1965 first edition published by Routledge & Kegan Paul
  • The rear jacket flap states the volume was produced exclusively for RU members and not for general sale, priced at 24s post free
  • Jacket design features medieval pilgrim imagery, including a woodcut-style depiction on the spine of pilgrims on horseback

This is a pre-owned book. Please look at every photograph: they show its true condition.
