About this copy
A Book of Delights: An Anthology of Words and Pictures, compiled by John Hadfield. London: Edward Hulton, 1957. This copy has a 1957 title page, but the copyright page states 'First published in 1954' and lists reprints in 1954, 1955 (twice), 1956, 1957 and 1959.
It is therefore a later printing, not a first edition. The jacket flap reads 'Seventh Large Impression'. Designed by John Hadfield and John Lewis; printed by W. S. Cowell Ltd, Ipswich.
The frontispiece reproduces a portrait of Paul Sandby, R.A. by Francis Cotes, R.A. (Tate Gallery). Colour plates and text pages are included. The original dust jacket is present with the printed price of 25s. net, unclipped.
The jacket is in fair condition with chipping and tears at the top and bottom edges and corners, and wear to the spine panel.
Condition
- Book
- Good – Sound, tight binding; clean text and plates; light edge and corner wear to boards. No inscriptions or ownership marks seen.
- Dust jacket
- Fair – Chipping and tears at top and bottom edges and corners, loss at spine head and foot, soiling and fading to panels. Price visible on front flap.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
