About this copy

This is a hardcover edition of Berta Lawrence's survey of Somerset legends, covering figures such as Joseph of Arimathea, King Arthur, King Alfred, the Monmouth Rebellion, and local rogues including Bamfylde Moore Carew. The copyright page is dated 1973 with no further printing history indicated. The book is housed in its original pictorial dust jacket, illustrating Burrow Mump on the front panel.

The front free endpaper carries a 1973 Christmas gift inscription ('From Barbara & Mike, Christmas 1973') and a later pencil note recording purchase from Taunton Castle Museum in May 2006, along with an ink inscription 'DJ Cook' on the front pastedown.

Condition

Book
Good – blue cloth boards, text block clean and sound; a small ding to the top corner of the front board.
Dust jacket
Fair – front panel bright and attractive, but the spine ends and flap edges show chipping and tearing, with some foxing/staining to the lower back panel.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
