About this copy
A handsome, richly illustrated survey of European painting, taking the reader from the Tuscan masters of the late thirteenth century through the Venetians, Flemish, Dutch and German schools. Davies guides you school by school, with chapters on Cimabue, Giotto, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt and many more, making it a wonderful companion for anyone wanting an overview of the great painters of six centuries. This copy comes in a striking blue cloth binding with gilt title and gilt roundel to the front board.
The colour plates are tipped in on guards throughout, including the Pisano St Anthony and St George, Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks and the Arnolfini Portrait, and the contents are clearly laid out by school.
Condition
- Book
- Good. The binding is firm and the cloth still bright with its gilt lettering clearly legible. Expect some foxing and light spotting to the text pages and title page, along with soiling and wear to the cloth at the spine ends and corners. No dust jacket.
A pre-owned book; any wear beyond that described is minor and in keeping with its age.
