About this copy

Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy remains one of the most engaging and readable surveys of the subject ever written. Russell, a Nobel laureate and one of the great minds of the twentieth century, traces the ideas of thinkers from the Presocratics to the present day, showing how philosophy has been shaped by the political and social circumstances of each age. It is a book that has delighted generations of readers and continues to be a favourite introduction to the field.

This copy is a sturdy hardback from the 1946 Allen and Unwin edition, printed under the War Economy Standard. It is an ex-Hornsey Public Libraries copy, with its original pocket and date labels still in place, a lovely piece of reading history.

Condition

Fair. The binding is tight and the text block is secure. The red cloth boards show rubbing and wear, the spine ends are frayed, and the pages are age-toned with some foxing. Library stamps, the spine label and the ticket pocket remain.
