About this copy

ROYAL ACADEMY PICTURES 1896 Illustrating the Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Exhibition of the Royal Academy, being the Royal Academy Supplement of The Magazine of Art. Published by Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris & Melbourne, 1896. This is the 1896 annual volume of Royal Academy Pictures, a Cassell publication reproducing a wide selection of works shown at that year's Royal Academy summer exhibition in London.

The volume contains numerous full-page and smaller plate reproductions after paintings by artists exhibiting that year, including Ernest Normand, Hon. John Collier, G. Nicolet, Reginald Arthur, and Harold Speed, each captioned with the artist's name and picture title. The book is bound in the original blue decorative cloth boards with a gilt and blind-stamped Art Nouveau style border design to the front board, and a blind-stamped panel design to the rear board.

There is no dust jacket.

Condition

Book
Fair – a well-used copy showing notable wear. The spine cloth is frayed and shows loss at the head and tail, and there is cracking/weakness at the front hinge where the textblock meets the boards. The front free endpaper shows foxing and browning. Boards show general edge wear, scuffing, and surface marks, most visible to the rear board. Internally the plates are clean with only light edge wear. Please see photos, which form part of the description and show the full extent of wear.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability.
