About this copy

A. Heaton Cooper was among the most admired English landscape painters of his day, and this book is a lovely tour of the Isle of Wight through his luminous water-colours. From the chalk stacks of The Needles and the wooded chines of Shanklin and Blackgang to the Undercliff at Ventnor and the sailing waters off Cowes, each plate captures the island's changing light and coastline with real warmth. It is one of the uniform series of A. & C. Black colour books that many collectors enjoy shelving together.

This copy is a 1916 A. & C. Black hardback in its original cloth-backed boards, with a bright colour plate of The Needles on the front cover and the sixteen colour plates within. The binding is firm and the colour plates are attractive.

Condition

Book
Fair. The binding is sound and the boards are firmly attached, and the colour plates remain bright. The cloth is soiled and rubbed at the corners, with a circular stain on the boards, some wear to the spine ends, light brown spotting to the endpapers, and fragile hinges.

A pre-owned book; any wear beyond that described is minor and in keeping with its age.
