This copy is the third impression (1963) of the book first published in English in 1959, translated and adapted from the Danish original by E. B. Anderson. The text covers 356 species with colour illustrations, arranged in sections on shrubs, climbers, and conifers. The book is bound in Blandford's original pictorial paper-covered boards rather than with a separate printed dust jacket; there is no dust jacket present on this copy.

- Fair – the pictorial paper covering shows significant wear, with tears and old tape repairs to the spine ends and corners, and some soiling to the boards. A printed blurb panel on the front pastedown/endpaper area is loose and has been reattached with tape. The text block and title page are clean and intact internally.
