About this copy
This is the original sales catalogue for Parke-Bernet Galleries' celebrated auction of the Schraubstadter collection of fine Japanese prints (Sale 942), conducted on March 8–9, 1948. The two-session sale featured an exceptional group of colour prints spanning the Edo and Meiji periods, with extensive holdings by Hiroshige, Hokusai, Kuniyoshi, Utamaro, Buncho, Shunso, Harunobu, Kiyonaga and other major artists. The catalogue includes detailed descriptions of 304 lots, with condition notes and dimensions throughout.
Cloth boards with lettered spine. 64 pages. Priced catalogues (supplementary to the base text) could be obtained for one dollar per auction session per the colophon.
Condition
- Book
- Good – cloth boards show moderate wear and light soiling appropriate to age; spine remains sound with clear lettering; binding is secure and pages are clean and readable. Minor edge bumping and age spots throughout.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
