About this copy
This is the 1970 first published edition of this landmark field guide, the first comprehensive colour-illustrated guide to the butterflies of Europe, North Africa, and the Atlantic islands. The copyright page states 'First published 1970' with no further printing statements visible in this copy. The book is illustrated throughout with over 760 colour paintings by Brian Hargreaves, showing upperside and underside for every species and important subspecies.
The original dust jacket carries its printed price of £2.10 net (42s. net) on the front flap, and the price appears unclipped.
Condition
- Book
- Good – text block and boards appear sound with some foxing/spotting visible along the front endpaper edges; a small ink mark is visible on the front board beneath the jacket.
- Dust jacket
- Fair – notable tear and loss of paper at the top of the front panel near the spine, heavy brown foxing/staining across the rear panel, and a further tear with paper loss at the bottom rear/spine fold. General edge wear consistent with age.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
