About this copy
This is the second volume in the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Köln series, a German-language scholarly study of Japanese sculpture illustrated throughout with black-and-white plates of Buddhist sculptural works. The title page confirms the Berlin, 1923 publication by Verlag für Kunstwissenschaft; no later printing history is indicated on the copy in hand. The book is bound in paper-covered boards with a cloth spine, typical of the series' original presentation.
Condition
- Book
- Fair – the boards show heavy foxing/spotting to the front and rear covers, and the corners are bumped with some wear through to the board beneath. The cloth spine is worn, soiled, and frayed at the head and tail. The front inner hinge has cracked, with the binding mull visible (see photos). The interior text block and plates remain clean, complete, and legible, with only a small chip to the fore-edge of one early leaf.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
