About this copy

Collection Ernest Le Veel: Estampes Japonaises (1ère vente) Auction catalogue for the first sale of the Ernest Le Veel Collection of Japanese prints, held by Ader Picard Tajan on 15 November 1979. This is an important reference document for collectors of Japanese woodblock art and prints from the Edo and Meiji periods. The catalogue covers primitives including works by Toshinobu, Kiyomashu, Harunobu, Koryusai, Kiyonaga, and Buncho; prints by Shunman, Sharaku, Utamaro, Toyokuni, Eishi and his school; Hokusai works including a rare set of 41 woodblocks of 36 views of Mount Fuji; Gakutei and Hiroshige pieces; Surimono prints; and rare documentation prints and woodblocks.

Published in Paris by Ader Picard Tajan, commissaires-priseurs. Text in French. Issued with pictorial dust jacket featuring Japanese-inspired artwork.

Condition

Book
Good – Interior pages show age-appropriate toning and discolouration consistent with a 1979 catalogue reference work. Binding is sound, no tears or significant internal damage. Some general handling wear visible.
Dust jacket
Very Good – Pictorial jacket features vibrant Japanese-inspired artwork with figures in traditional dress against a warm orange/tan ground. Colours remain bright. Minimal creasing to front surface. Spine area shows gentle rubbing and minor discolouration from age. Overall well-preserved.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
