About this copy
This is the 1973 Octopus Books edition of this illustrated survey of chess sets, with text originally copyrighted 1967 by George Weidenfeld and Nicolson Ltd. The book features 123 illustrations in colour and black and white, surveying chesspieces from medieval times through Europe, Russia, the Middle East and the Far East, with sections on materials and museum collections. The book is bound in pictorial laminated boards (no separate dust jacket), part of Octopus Books' collectors' series alongside titles such as Arms and Armour, Bronzes, and Chinese Porcelain.
Condition
- Book
- Good – pictorial boards show light surface rubbing and shelf wear to the extremities, with a small crease to the upper corner of the rear board. Internally clean and bright in the sections photographed.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
