About this copy

This is the Ninth Edition, with Revised Appendix (Ninety-Seventh Thousand) of this well-known technical textbook on building construction, aimed at students preparing for Board of Education, RIBA, Surveyors' Institution, City & Guilds and other technical examinations. It is a later printing of an established title, not a first edition. The text includes approximately 1100 illustrations.

Loosely inserted is an original publisher's slip dated September 1917, 'Revision of Prices', in which Batsford announce increased prices for their textbooks (including this title) due to wartime production costs - an interesting piece of contemporary ephemera. The book is bound in the publisher's original red cloth, blind-stamped to the front board, with titling to the spine. There is no dust jacket.

Condition

Book
Fair – the binding is sound but shows notable wear: the front inner hinge has exposed and torn mull/cloth where the endpaper meets the spine, the spine cloth is worn and discoloured with some loss at the head and tail, and the front board has surface soiling and staining. An early owner's name is inscribed in ink on the front free endpaper. Pages are tanned with age but text and illustrations throughout are clear and complete based on examined pages.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
