About this copy

This is the standard first edition, first printing trade issue of this large-format survey of British landscape painting, featuring 149 illustrations (31 in colour) of works by around seventy artists from the sixteenth century to the twentieth. The copyright page confirms 'First Published 1975' with no later printings indicated. A separate signed, limited edition of 300 copies was also issued at the time (different ISBN); this is NOT that edition, but the ordinary trade first printing.

The book has pictorial boards printed directly onto the hardcover, with no separate dust jacket issued for this binding style. The endpapers reproduce an oil sketch by John Constable, 'Cirrus Clouds' (1822), from the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Condition

Book
Fair – the front board shows a scratch/crease across the upper right area and a small chip at the lower left corner. The rear board has noticeable discoloration and a yellowish staining band along the right edge. Corners and spine ends show wear from handling and age. Interior pages are generally clean with only light overall toning.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
