The novel was first published by Collins in 1965; this copy represents the later book club printing, not the first edition. Hardcover in original publisher's cloth, housed in the pictorial dust jacket.

- Fair – the jacket shows wear and rubbing to the spine ends and corners, a small nick to the top edge of the front panel, and old tape repairs to the inner flaps (visible in photos). There is also some foxing/staining near the top of the rear flap.
