About this copy

THE SCOTTISH STUDENTS' SONG BOOK Published for the Scottish Students' Song Book Committee Ltd. by Bayley & Ferguson, London & Glasgow. This is a collection of student songs with musical settings, including Latin and Scots texts with English translations (e.g. 'Est Propositum', music by R. L. de Pearsall).

No printing statement or copyright page giving the full publishing history was available to inspect, so the specific printing of this copy cannot be confirmed; it is offered as an early edition of the work. The title page carries an old pencil ownership inscription reading 'A. McWood' dated 'Glas. 1920', indicating the book was in use by that year.

The book is bound in the publisher's original decorative grey-green cloth, with a gilt-and-colour-printed design to the front board depicting a robed figure playing a lyre, in an Art Nouveau border. No dust jacket is present.

Condition

Book
Good – cloth shows rubbing and wear at the spine ends and corners; the colour-printed front panel remains bright and legible, though gilt lettering shows some dulling consistent with age. Text block pages are tanned, as expected for the period, with a small closed tear to the lower corner of one preliminary leaf. An old pencil ownership inscription and date appear on the title page.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
