About this copy

This is the Collected Edition of Maugham's 1908 novel, revised and reset in 1956, and forming volume 21 of Heinemann's Collected Edition of his works. This printing includes a specially written introduction by Maugham himself, 'A Fragment of Autobiography', in which he discusses meeting Aleister Crowley in Paris and Crowley's influence on the character of Oliver Haddo. The copyright page confirms: First Published 1908, Reprinted 1909, 1914, 1919, 1927, 1931, Collected Edition revised and reset 1956 - this copy represents that 1956 printing, not the original 1908 first edition.

Bound in red cloth boards, housed in the original dust jacket designed by Francis Carr, priced 15s net on the front flap.

Condition

Book
Very Good - clean red cloth boards, text block clean with only minor age-related spotting to the endpapers.
Dust jacket
Fair - jacket shows overall toning and noticeable staining, particularly to the rear panel, along with some edge wear and small chips to the spine ends and corners. Front panel design remains bright and legible. The jacket is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
