About this copy
This is a hardcover edition of the comic epistolary bestseller, presented as genuine correspondence from the fictional retired fishmonger Henry Root to prominent public figures and institutions of the late 1970s. The copyright page confirms 1980 publication by Weidenfeld & Nicolson; no further printing statement is present on this copy's copyright page. The book is housed in its original illustrated dust jacket, designed by Andrew Kay, depicting a mackerel on a marble surface - a nod to Root's fictional background running a wet-fish business.
Condition
- Book
- Good – boards are sound and the text block appears clean and complete in the photographed pages.
- Dust jacket
- Fair – a tear with an old mend is visible at the top of the spine, and there is noticeable staining along the top edge of the flap. General surface rubbing and wear is present, especially at the corners.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
