About this copy

This is the first UK edition of this foundational text in social science methodology, which introduced the grounded theory approach to qualitative research. The book was originally published in the United States in 1967, with this Weidenfeld and Nicolson edition marking its first publication in Great Britain the following year. Hardback in blue cloth boards, housed in the original dust jacket (jacket design by Alan Bull).

The jacket is protected by a clear plastic wrap. The front free endpaper carries a period owner's ink inscription reading 'P.E.D. Robinson, Oct 1969.'

Condition

Book
Good – cloth boards appear clean and sound; text block and title page are clean. Front free endpaper bears an owner's ink inscription and date (1969).
Dust jacket
Fair – significant loss to the paper at the top edge and top corners of both the front and rear panels, with visible tape repairs to the spine area and inside the front flap. Some light foxing to the lower rear panel. Original price of 55s net is printed and unclipped on the front flap.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
