This is the first edition of Nash's photographic record of Southern Region steam operations between 1948 and 1967, covering the Eastern, Central, and Western sections of the system. The copyright page states 'First published 1974' with no later printing noted, consistent with a first printing of this copy. Bound in blue cloth boards with a pictorial dust jacket featuring a painting by George Heiron of 'The Devon Belle'.
The jacket carries its original printed price of £2.75 on the front flap, which is intact and unclipped.
