About this copy
No date stated. This is a decorative cloth-bound anthology of Victorian/Edwardian parlour songs, containing pieces such as 'I Dreamt That I Dwelt in Marble Halls', 'Ben Bolt', 'Tom Bowling', 'Sally in Our Alley', and 'The Brave Old Oak' (music by Edward Loder), among others, with vocal and piano arrangements printed throughout along with tonic sol-fa notation. The title page is marked 'First Series' but no further edition or printing information is present in the book to confirm its precise printing.
The book has no dust jacket, as was typical for this style of publication.
Condition
- Book
- Fair – a well-used copy. The red cloth boards retain their gilt-and-black decorated design to the front cover (bird on a flowering branch), but show noticeable wear at the corners and edges. The spine cloth is split and frayed at both the head and tail, with some loss of material and the sewing structure visible. The title page has chipping and loss to the upper corner, and the text block shows age-toning and scattered foxing throughout. The front hinge is cracked and the binding is loosening somewhat, though the text pages themselves remain complete and legible.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
