About this copy

Navigating Officer's Note Book S.548A form, established December 1903, revised January 1925. Printed by C. Bros. (N/c) Ltd, this particular stock dated June 1967.

This is an official Royal Navy-issue navigating officer's note book, used and filled in by hand by a serving officer (name inscribed on the front cover as Lt P. J. Mitchell). The pages are filled with period manuscript navigational workings in ink and pencil - courses, bearings, dead-reckoning calculations, tidal and weather notes, and place names including Plymouth, Biscay, Finisterre, Kyle and Enard. A genuine working document rather than a published title.

Condition

Book
Fair - the cloth boards are worn, soiled and faded, with rubbed corners. The spine cloth is split and partially detached at the top hinge (see photos). Interior pages show foxing and staining in places, consistent with age and use, but the manuscript content remains legible throughout.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
