About this copy

This is the first edition of this illustrated history of Bristol's hidden and vanished past, exploring the city's role in trade, its legends, and its relationship with the sea. The copyright page states 'First published in 2006 by Birlinn Limited' with no subsequent reprint notices, consistent with this being a first printing. This copy is inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: 'For Keith, With best wishes, from [signature], 8 Aug 2006' - dated just days after publication.

The front jacket reproduces a watercolour of St John-on-the-wall by T.L. Rowbotham (1828), with a photograph by Kevin Flay on the rear.

Condition

Book
Very Good - text block clean and tight, boards square, no notable defects observed beyond the owner inscription.
Dust jacket
Very Good - bright, unclipped in visible areas, no major tears or creases observed in photographs.

This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
