This copy represents the 1934 reprint of this Scouting title, as stated plainly on the copyright page: First Published 1928, Second Edition 1929, Reprinted 1930, 1932, and 1934. It is not a first edition. The front free endpaper bears a period owner's inscription dated 10 April 1934, along with a printed 'The Gilcraft Series No. 4' stamp identifying its place in the wider Gilcraft Scouting series.
The book is bound in the original green pictorial paper-covered boards, with a silhouette illustration by Shelley to the front cover depicting a game of 'cock-fighting' with pillows.

- Fair – Covers show notable wear including bumped and chipped corners, with visible loss at the spine head. Internally there is scattered foxing/age spotting to the endpapers and preliminary leaves, consistent with age. The text block itself remains sound and complete. No dust jacket present.
