About this copy
This is the first edition, first printing of Adrian House's acclaimed biography of St Francis of Assisi, identified by the full descending number line (2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3) on the copyright page and the absence of any reprint statement. House spent four years researching the book, including six months living in Assisi. Hardcover in original dust jacket.
The jacket front reproduces a detail from Sassetta's Legend of the Wolf of Gubbio (National Gallery, London), and the back reproduces a detail from Cimabue's Madonna and Child with Angels and St Francis in the Lower Church, San Francesco, Assisi. The jacket retains its original printed price of £20.00 on the front flap and is unclipped.
Condition
- Book
- Very Good – text block clean and tight, maps and index intact, no inscriptions noted.
- Dust jacket
- Good – general rubbing and wear along the extremities, with a crease and light surface wear to the top corner of the front panel.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
