About this copy

A hardback study of Bristol's pivotal role during the English Civil War, examining the city's capture by Royalist forces in 1643 and its recapture by Parliament in 1645, and the strategic importance of its industry, trade, and port facilities to both sides. This copy is in the original dust jacket, which retains its printed price of £12.50 on the front flap, indicating it has not been price-clipped. The jacket features a photographic image of a flintlock pistol against a burning Bristol skyline, with the reverse reproducing the title page of a 1644 pamphlet concerning the trial of Nathaniel Fiennes over the surrender of Bristol.
