About this copy

An engaging window onto the social world behind the art and learning of the Renaissance. E. R. Chamberlin ranges across two centuries, from 1450 to 1650, taking readers from the court of the Duke of Urbino to the workshops, mills, merchant houses and city streets of Italy, France, Germany and the Low Countries. Rather than generalising, he builds his picture from vivid individual examples, making this an ideal introduction for younger readers and anyone new to the period.

This is a handsome hardback, complete with its original dust jacket, which features Piero della Francesca's portrait of Federigo da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino. The copy is from the third impression of 1969, and the jacket still carries its printed price of 25s net / £1.25 net.
