About this copy
This is the first Dover edition of this title, described on the copyright page as 'a new work, first published by Dover Publications, Inc., in 1972.' It compiles 147 period engravings of 19th-century American locomotives, originally sourced from the contemporary trade press, arranged chronologically from 1804 to the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, with explanatory text by the author, then Chairman of the Department of Industries at the Smithsonian Institution. Issued in Dover's illustrated paperback wrappers (large format, approx. 11 3/8 x 8 1/4 inches).
No dust jacket, as issued in paper covers.
Condition
- Book
- Good – a sound, complete reading/reference copy in illustrated wrappers. Covers show corner wear and a small crease at the lower right front corner, plus an old retail price sticker affixed to the rear cover. Light age toning to the covers. Interior pages are clean. Please see photos for specific condition.
This is a pre-owned book, and minor age-related wear may be present beyond what is specifically mentioned. All readily visible defects have been described to the best of my ability. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
