Darwin and the Beagle

This is a 1973 Book Club Associates edition, reprinted by arrangement with the original publisher Hamish Hamilton Ltd. The copyright is held by Alan Moorehead, 1969. This edition was designed and produced by George Rainbird Ltd, London, with editor Enid Gordon and designer Ronald Clark. The book is richly illustrated throughout with period artwork and contemporary engravings from the era of the Beagle voyage, including oil paintings and watercolours by Augustus Earle and Conrad Martens, the artists who accompanied the voyage.

The text explores Darwin's five-year voyage around the world aboard HMS Beagle, describing the countries visited, the species encountered, and the observations that would ultimately shape modern evolutionary theory. Binding: Cloth with illustrated dust jacket. Condition Book: Good – The interior is clean and well-preserved with minimal browning.

Binding is secure and the spine is intact. The boards show minor soiling and age-related patina consistent with a 50-year-old book club copy. Dust jacket: Fair – Present and apparently original.

The jacket shows moderate creasing, rubbing, and edge wear typical of a well-used dust jacket from the 1970s. The colour remains vibrant overall despite minor fading to the edges. The jacket is intact with no tears or significant damage.
