About this copy

David Read's delightful memoir of a remarkable childhood spent in rural East Africa between the wars. Growing up with only a handful of white adults for company, young David roamed the bush and the Serengeti plain with African children, and was readily accepted into Masai settlements, where he learned the language and joined in the life of the community. The book vividly describes safaris, the great wildebeest migration and the goldfields of the Lupa, and offers a sympathetic insight into Masai customs and rites of passage.

This Travel Book Club hardback edition, issued in 1980 by arrangement with Cassell Ltd, comes complete with its original dust jacket, illustrated by David Pratt, with the Cassell price of £5.25 printed on the flap. A tight, sound binding and clean pages make this a very appealing copy.
